Wednesday Wink || Giñada divina

April 22, 2015 by Yael Leave a Comment

B”H

Hello everyone! Welcome to another installment of Wednesday Wink- JewishLatinPrincess’ series on Divine Providence (Hashgacha Pratit). Divine Providence means that G-d is involved in every detail of our lives, albeit His involvement is concealed within nature, or the natural order of creation. Thus, nothing in our lives is “coincidence,” although it may very well seem like it.

¡Hola a todas!

Some of you know that my husband and I started a spirits company called byejoe spirit of china. The company had signed up to participate and be showcased in a big industry event in Las Vegas. One of my husband’s colleagues, and an expert in these types of events, was meant to attend and represent byejoe. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen reasons, he had to cancel the week of the event. Now, who could go!? We had already paid and committed to doing this big event. Our company had to show up!

heropak

For a number of reasons, the only practical alternative was for my husband himself to go. However, the event would start on Friday night from 7-10 pm, with a follow up event on Saturday night from 7-10 pm. A bit inconvenient if you observe Shabbat, right? This time of year, Shabbat comes in around 7:30 in Las Vegas and goes out around 8:30 pm on Saturday night. Mhhh, this was not looking too good.

He had someone local lined up who was interested in representing our product and in running the event, but that entailed going to Las Vegas to train them and leave them on their own. First of all…Train someone new!? If you run your own business, and especially in this business, you know that training someone new and leaving them to represent your brand without any backup or guidance, is not the ideal thing, to say the least! I was adamant that he should go, stay in Vegas for Shabbat, and show up at least for an hour on Saturday night, even if it meant Shabbat without my husband.

matt-and-byejoe

My husband decided he’s going to go Wednesday, bring all the materials to Vegas, have some meetings, and train the local person to handle the event, pray for the best, and come back to spend Shabbat with his family. Trust me, this sounds simple, but these decisions are never simple.

Before leaving, my mother-in-law told him to call his uncle who had recently moved Vegas. Turns out, this uncle had just gone into the hospital for a heart surgery. In between meetings, my husband rushed to the hospital to do the mitzvah of bikkur cholim– visiting the sick. His uncle was so delighted! Such an unexpected surprise!

They had the most wonderful visit. This uncle is a physicist and an extremely bright man. A few years ago, he turned to the study of kabbalah and has been very dedicated to it, having just finished reading the entire Zohar cover-to-cover- which he achieved through daily study over a span of 6 years! So, the visit from his “chassidic” nephew turned out to be such a pleasure as he had whom to discuss all his philosophical questions based on kaballah and science and so on. They discussed kabbalah and Judaism for a couple of hours and it was so fun and warm for both of them.

My husband says that at some point in the conversation, when my husband was sharing what had brought him to Vegas, his uncle said to him the following story. “You remember that I used to collect guns. When you were a little boy, around 8 years old, you wanted to play with one of my pellet guns.” (A bit crazy I know…) “I didn’t want you to shoot the gun. But, seeing that you were so determined I made you a deal, which I knew would still turn out in my favor, and you wouldn’t get to shoot the gun.”

“I told you that if you were able load the pellet gun, then I would let you shoot it.” Apparently, these are extremely hard to load, as after each pellet you need to exert an added amount of pressure to load the next pellet, and so on. The force needed to load such a thing, an adult male could handle, but not an 8 year old. Well it turns out… my husband, then a kid, was so determined to shoot the gun, that he worked and worked at loading this thing, until he did it. His uncle says, he couldn’t believe it! He said, “Matt, after I saw what you did that day, I said to myself, ‘this kid will achieve anything he sets out to do.'”

The visit ended, the meetings did as well. My husband left the materials in Vegas, and trained someone to run the two events.

We had no idea how this show was going to turn out without my husband being there to represent the company or the product. But, we hoped for the best and we spent Shabbat as a family.

Also, after recalling the trip to Vegas, we both felt it was almost like he had to go to Las Vegas, to see his uncle, and hear his positive, encouraging words. We would have gained nothing from having gotten angry and the fact that the other colleague had to cancel, and that now my husband had to go to Las Vegas and the whole situation.

Monday morning we got the following report, “Matt, we’d never seen anything like this, I have no way of explaining it, people were lining up to drink your product. We want to represent you not just in Nevada, but also in California!”

I loved being part of your podcast, I had no idea what to expect and it was refreshing as a Jewish woman to participate in your podcast. Your questions related to what I do, combined with Judaism gave me a lot to think about. I love getting new questions instead of the typical “why did you start the project?” which is important but I’m glad you gave it a twist. I hope your listeners enjoy the interview as much as I enjoyed being part of it! Thanks for challenging me to think about my topic and religion as one.

In preparation for my wedding, I had the opportunity to learn with Yael. I'm also proud to say that through our experience together she has become a great friend and is someone that I can I always talk to.

Yael can be defined as “refreshing inspiration.” She is well-versed in an array of topics from Jewish femininity to design details. Every time I hear her at a speaking engagement or in passing conversation, she always brings an awareness of Jewish femininity to the forefront, constantly reminding women of their spiritual role and importance in ‘everyday’ things. I was thrilled that she passed this concept on, along with her deep knowledge of Judaism, to my daughter during their Bat Mitzvah lessons together. Yael always rises to the occasion (no pun intended) with her eye for design and attention to details. Her subtle palette, creativity and organizational skills are her recipe to success!

My daughter Stav had her Bat Mitzvah a few months ago.  I wanted Stav to go into her 'Bat Mitzvah' understanding the meaning of the term, and with the knowledge of how to apply it to her life. Even though she learns in a Jewish Orthodox school, I felt that she needed extra learning and inspiration for her coming of age.  Luckily, I knew Yael from before, and heard that she teaches Bat Mitzvah classes.  I had a feeling that this would be a good match... I wasn't wrong :)

Yael teaches ancient ideas in a modern way.  Stav came back from classes inspired, thinking and asking herself questions.  I'm thankful that my daughter had the opportunity to learn with Yael for her Bat Mitzvah in a interesting, welcoming and inspiring way.

Yael has creativity, vision, and energy, and she uses them all to the fullest for her clients. She came up with the color scheme, all the accessories, the overall “look” of the day, and I just happily and gratefully followed along. But I don’t want you to think it’s only what Yael wants, Yael does. She asked me for input every step of the way. She always checked in with me about what she was buying, what she thought we should have at the party, and she was always conscious of budget. I wanted everything she suggested, but I know that if there had been anything I wasn’t keen to have, she would have changed it until she found something that I loved. She wanted my daughter and me to be happy with everything. We weren’t happy – that’s too meager a word – we were elated!!! Working with Yael was such a pleasant and joyful experience. And those are two words I don’t use lightly when it comes to describing planning an event.
