Today I’m super thrilled to begin a new series here on JewishLatinPrincess titled Wednesday Wink. Wednesday Wink will be a series on Divine Providence (Hashgacha Pratit). Divine Providence means that G-d is involved in every detail of our lives, albeit His involvement is concealed within nature, or the natural order of creation. Thus, nothing in our lives is “coincidence”, although it may very well seem like it.
Hoy estoy super emocionada de comenzar una nueva serie aquí en JewishLatinPrincess, titulada Guiñada divina. Guiñada divina será una serie basada en el tema de “Providencia Divina” (Hashgacha Pratit). Providencia Divina quiere decir que Di-s está envuelto en cada detalle de nuestras vidas, a pesar de que su participación este escondida dentro de la naturaleza, o el orden natural de la creación. Por ende, nada en nuestras vidas es “coincidencia”, aunque muchas veces así lo parezca.Each Wednesday Wink will re-tell an incident in which we were able to sense G-d winking at us from above. The goal of Wednesday Wink is for the stories in this series to be a source of strength and inspiration, reminding us that we are never alone.
Cada Guiñada divina será un recuento de un incidente en el cual tuvimos la sensación de que Di-s nos estaba dando una guiñada. El objetivo de Guiñada divina es que las historias en esta serie sean una fuente de fuerza e inspiración, recordándonos que nunca estamos solas.I’d like to begin Wednesday Wink today with a Divine Providence story related to Pesach, told to me and my husband this past Shabbat by one of our guests. Our friend told us the following story:
Quisiera comenzar la Guiñada divina de hoy con una historia de Providencia Divina que nos contó uno de nuestros invitados este pasado Shabbat. Nuestro amigo nos contó la siguiente hisotria:
Growing up, even though he was not connected much to his Jewish heritage, there was one holiday that he did celebrate and was very much aware of – Pesach. Pesach was something he kept- he ate matzah for eight days, he had Seders with family and friends, and so on.
Comenzó contándonos que en su niñez y juventud no estaba muy conectado con su judaísmo, pero que si había una fiesta que celebraba siempre y a la cual se sentía particularmente conectado- Pesaj. Comía matzá durante ocho días y hacia los Sederim con su familia y amigos, etc.At some point in his life, over twenty years ago, this man moved to France around the month of February. He had to move for work and his wife could not leave her work to join him until March. So, during those first few weeks alone in France, he had a lot of free time when he finished work. He used to walk around the city and on Thursdays he would stop at the nearby Carrefour to do his weekly shopping.
En un punto de su vida, hace mas de veinte años, este hombre se mudo a Francia alrededor del mes de febrero. Se tuvo que mudar por trabajo y su esposa no podía acompañarlo hasta el mes de marzo. Así es que durante esas primeras semanas solo en Francia, tenía mucho tiempo libre al terminar de trabajar. Tomaba largas caminatas y los jueves paraba en el Carrefour para hacer la compra semanal.On a given Thursday, early in March, he was at Carrefour and suddenly (he doesn’t even know how he realized!) it dawned on him that Pesach would be in a few days- the coming Monday- and he had not made any preparations whatsoever. He found himself in this Carrefour in France, not knowing a soul, not speaking the language, and immediately felt that there was no way that he would be keeping the holiday that he had always been so fond of.
Un jueves, a principios de marzo, estaba en el Carrefour y de repente (¡no sabe ni como se dio cuenta!) calló en cuenta de que Pesaj iba a ser en varios días- el lunes- y que no había hecho ningún preparativo. Se vio en este inmenso Carrefour en la mitad de Francia, donde aún no conocía a nadie- mucho menos a un judío- no hablaba el idioma, e inmediatamente pensó que no habría ninguna manera en la cual podría celebrar la fiesta este año.“Where in the world would he find Matzah!?” he thought. “This is not U.S., where you can find matzo in any supermarket.” He says, he felt really awful. He told G-d, “Please forgive me, G-d, but this year, I don’t think I’ll be doing Pesach.” As he finishes saying this to G-d, he sees a man walking right up to him, dressed in black and white, with a hat and a beard!
“¿Dónde voy a encontrar Matza, en Francia!?” pensó. “No es E.E.U.U., donde hay matzá prácticamente en cualquier supermercado.” Dice que se sintió pésimo. Le dijo a Di-s, “Por favor, perdóname, Di-s mío, pero parece ser que este año no voy a poder cumplir Pesaj.” Ni bien termina de decir esto, ve a un hombre caminando hacia el, vestido de blanco y negro con un sombrero y una barba.At this point of telling us the story he began to laugh and said, “In my religious immaturity I thought this was just a nice coincidence!”
En este punto, al contarnos la historia, nuestro amigo comienza a reirse y dijo, “Dentro de mi inmadurez ‘religiosa’, ¡yo pensé que esto era una linda coincidencia!”He continued. “I stopped the obviously Jewish looking man, and said the only thing I knew to say in French, ‘Parle vous Anglais?’ The man replied in perfect English, ‘Of course! I’m from Canada.'”
Continuó. “Paré al señor- obviamente judío- y le dije lo único que sabía decir en francés, ‘Parle bous Anglais?’ “El señor me contestó en un ingles perfecto, ‘¡Claro, si soy de canadiense!”“Oh, then perhaps you can tell me where I can find Matzah for the holiday?” our friend asked. The Jewish man immediately told him where to go pick up the matzah, and invited him to the Seders. He had his matzah for the eight days of Pesach and his Seders that he so much loved.
“Oh, entonces tal vez me puede decir donde puedo comprar matzá para la fiesta?” le dijo nuestro amigo. El hombre inmediatamente le dijo a donde ir a recoger la matzá y lo invitó a los Sederim. Tuvo su matzá los ocho días de Pesaj y sus Sederim de los cuales tanto disfrutaba.
Our friend concluded with a wide smile, “Only much later did I connect the dots- I spoke to G-d, and He answered.”
Nuestro amigo concluyó con una gran sonrisa, “No fue hasta mucho mas adelante que caí en cuenta- Le hablé a Di-s, y me contestó.”
