Have a Great Day and other Jewish ideas || Que tengan un buen día y otras ideas judías

It never seizes to amaze me how this world is in essence a G-dly place, and how everything we do can be transformed into G-dliness. In fact, if I had to say, why I started writing this blog in one sentence, I would say… “To show how this physical world is a spiritual world, just waiting to be revealed.”

And who gets to reveal it? You guessed it… us! But, really I could be “showing” this in various other ways. What drove me to blogging, specifically? I read too many blogs and thought way too often,  almost in frustration, “Ah… shame… this could be put in a Jewish context…” I kept seeing and reading things that have so much spiritual potential and very few, if any, in the lifestyle blogging world was talking about what lies beneath the surface! That’s how JewishLatinPrincess was born.

¿Y a quién le toca revelarlo? Adivinaron…¡a nosotras!

Staples

Let me give you a happy example. Last summer I had read in other lifestyle blogs (not necessarily Jewish lifestyle blogs) about Cynthia Rowley’s office collection. Bloggers were raving about it and for good reason. It is good. From an aesthetic and design perspective, Cynthia Rowley’s office collection is good.

Most often, I read things in other blogs and think… “Yes, lets put this in a Jewish context!” And the idea for a blog post is born. In fact, I have more ideas than I’ll ever have time in my hands, but that’s another topic.

Now, when I read about Cynthia Rowley’s collection, I didn’t have that flash of inspiration. I thought, “Let others blog about this. It’s not for JewishLatinPrincess.”

Wrong! :-) I had not considered for a second that all the rave about Rowley’s beautiful office collection, was really driven by the spiritual beauty that lied within it. That is, until this past Friday…

At 8:30 am I walked into the teacher’s lounge to make a few photocopies (I teach Chassidut or the mystical dimension of Judaism to Middle School girls). The copy paper tray was empty. So, I started looking for paper. Oddly enough, there were a bunch of open packs of paper lying around, but they were all card stock, and I needed regular copy paper.

teachers-lounge-boxes

Then, I spotted a ton of large boxes with a beautiful floral print on them. (You all know that I love a good floral.) I thought, “Why! These boxes so pretty!? Oh and it’s in fact copy paper! Just what I need!” I then remembered all the fuss about Cynthia Rowley’s office collection and realized that it was a Cynthia Rowley print.

cynthia-rowley-boxes

All the boxes were closed and tightly wrapped in plastic. I thought for a second, “Ugg I’ll just go downstairs and use the other photocopy machine.” And then I stopped myself and said, “That is ridiculous! Get a scissor, and open a box of copy paper!”

And so I did. I cut through the plastic. I was ready to open the lovely flower box, get the block of copy paper, put it in the photocopy machine, make my copies, and run to my classroom. Suddenly,  I was hit by the most delightful surprise… one totally in the spirit of JewishLatinPrincess.

box-and-block

The blocks of paper were wrapped in yet another beautiful flower print- this time black and white. And on it, they said multiple times, “Have a Great Day.” Can you believe it!?

Brilliant! If this is not G-dliness, I don’t know what is. G-dliness in the corner of the copy machine room! Good old marketing used in such a positive way. If I’m the person stuck shlepping the boxes of paper, or unpacking them, I probably need to hear such an uplifting message. Brilliant, just brilliant! Talk about transforming the world.

¡Brillante! ¡Brillante, puramente brillante!

You can imagine my excitement as I left to teach my class. I start my class with an exercise in which every girl and myself share a positive thought (it’s optional). That morning, I definitely had what to share with my girls!

Although I have a feeling she might be Jewish, I do not know, and it doesn’t really matter. Kol Hakavod Mrs. Rowley for brilliant marketing, one which literally spreads light onto the far corners of the world, copy rooms included!

And with that… Have a Great Day! :-)

Y bueno, con esa… ¡les deseo que  Tengan un Gran Día! :-)

I loved being part of your podcast, I had no idea what to expect and it was refreshing as a Jewish woman to participate in your podcast. Your questions related to what I do, combined with Judaism gave me a lot to think about. I love getting new questions instead of the typical “why did you start the project?” which is important but I’m glad you gave it a twist. I hope your listeners enjoy the interview as much as I enjoyed being part of it! Thanks for challenging me to think about my topic and religion as one.

What a treat to hear Yael speak at the Jewish Women's Retreat in San Antonio. Her presentation, "Mi Casa es Su Casa, The Kabbalah of the Home" inspired me to express my Judaism in a way that speaks to my creative side and love of all things chic without compromising my true self and style. I'm so glad I got the chance to hear her message of creativity and Torah. Bravo!

I am writing to share how much I enjoyed your presentation on the kabbalah of home at the 55th N'shei Chabad convention in San Antonio, Texas. Your vivacious speaking style, the clarity with which you made your points, and your warmth toward your audience made this one of the best breakout sessions I attended.

In preparation for my wedding, I had the opportunity to learn with Yael. Creativity aside, she is a wealth of knowledge, both passionate and practical, about what she teaches and how she teaches it. I'm also proud to say that through our experience together she has become a great friend and is someone that I can I always talk to.

Yael can be defined as “refreshing inspiration.” She is well-versed in an array of topics from Jewish femininity to design details. Every time I hear her at a speaking engagement or in passing conversation, she always brings an awareness of Jewish femininity to the forefront, constantly reminding women of their spiritual role and importance in ‘everyday’ things. I was thrilled that she passed this concept on, along with her deep knowledge of Judaism, to my daughter during their Bat Mitzvah lessons together. Yael always rises to the occasion (no pun intended) with her eye for design and attention to details. Her subtle palette, creativity and organizational skills are her recipe to success!

My daughter Stav had her Bat Mitzvah a few months ago.  I wanted Stav to go into her 'Bat Mitzvah' understanding the meaning of the term, and with the knowledge of how to apply it to her life. Even though she learns in a Jewish Orthodox school, I felt that she needed extra learning and inspiration for her coming of age.  Luckily, I knew Yael from before, and heard that she teaches Bat Mitzvah classes.  I had a feeling that this would be a good match... I wasn't wrong :)

Yael teaches ancient ideas in a modern way.  Stav came back from classes inspired, thinking and asking herself questions.  I'm thankful that my daughter had the opportunity to learn with Yael for her Bat Mitzvah in a interesting, welcoming and inspiring way.

Yael has creativity, vision, and energy, and she uses them all to the fullest for her clients. She came up with the color scheme, all the accessories, the overall “look” of the day, and I just happily and gratefully followed along. But I don’t want you to think it’s only what Yael wants, Yael does. She asked me for input every step of the way. She always checked in with me about what she was buying, what she thought we should have at the party, and she was always conscious of budget. I wanted everything she suggested, but I know that if there had been anything I wasn’t keen to have, she would have changed it until she found something that I loved. She wanted my daughter and me to be happy with everything. We weren’t happy – that’s too meager a word – we were elated!!! Working with Yael was such a pleasant and joyful experience. And those are two words I don’t use lightly when it comes to describing planning an event.

Yael helped me style my son's upshernish as well as my living room. She is wonderful to work with! She is talented and extremely organized which is super helpful! She has an incredible eye and knows how to beautify absolutely anything!
