Hello, everyone! How is Pesach going? It’s the second day of Chol Hamoed Pesach (intermediate days), so I wanted to share five small things that save my sanity on this busy holiday. Our family’s Pesach custom is to not use processed foods on Passover, so pretty much everything is home made. In addition, it’s all made with vegetables that can be peeled. The food is actually super delicious, but preparation is time consuming and labor intensive. So here are a few things that make it all much easier and keep me sane.
¡Hola a todas! ¿Cómo va Pesaj? Es el segundo día de Chol Hamoed (los días intermedios), así que quería compartir con ustedes cinco cosas pequeñas que me salvan la cordura en esta fiesta que requiere tanto trabajo. En nuestra familia tenemos la costumbre en Pesaj de no usar comida procesada, así es que prácticamente todo es hecho en casa. En adición, sólo usamos vegetales que se pueden pelar. La comida es en realidad muy rica, pero require mucho trabajo y tiempo para preparar. Así es que aquí hay cinco cosas que me facilitan mucho la vida en Pesaj.
1|| Hamilton Beach Stand Mixer: We beat a lot of egg whites around here for Pesach… for sorbets, flurless cakes, merengues…I used to do it all with a hand mixer, and this year I treated myself to this inexpensive stand mixer. I love it! I have a Kitchen Aid in my regular all year round kitchen, but let me tell you this little Hamilton Beach does the job and stiffens those egg whites to perfection, freeing my hands do do other stuff.
1|| En Pesaj batimos muchisimas claras de huevos… para sorbets, bizcochos sin harina, merengues… Usualmente lo hacía con una batidora eléctrica de mano, pero este año me compré esta y me encanta. En mi cocina regular de todo el año tengo una Kitchen Aid, pero les cuento que esta pequeña y no-cara Hamilton Beach hace el trabajo muy bien y bate esas claras a la perfección, liberandome las manos para hacer otras cosas. 2|| Nitrile Exam Gloves: Ok not glamorous but seriously, this is a must! Too much cooking, peeling, and so on. Aside from the hygene factor, these just save my hands… and my manicure ;-)
2|| Ok no son nada glamorosos, pero en serio esto es esencial. Hay demasiado que cocinar, pelar, etc. Aparte de el factor higienico, estos guantes salvan mis manos… y mi manicura ;-)3|| Vinilux Weekly Nail Polish: So I know many of you are a fan of Shellac nail polish, especially for long holidays like Pesach. I can’t do Shellac. It weakens my nails a lot, and I have no patience to have to go back to the place to remove it. So righ before Pesach I discovered that the makers of Shellac make this 7 day nail polish, which actually lasts, and you can remove yourself. This red is absolutely stunning, but they have a lot of shades. Between this, and the nitrile exam gloves, you’ll have a perfect manicure during the eight day holiday.
3|| Ya se que muchas son fans del esmalte Shellac, especialmente para las fiestas largas como Pesaj, pero a mi no me funciona el Shellac. Me debilita muchísimo las uñas y no tengo paciencia para volver al lugar a que me quiten el esmalte. Pero antes de Pesaj descubrí este esmalte hecho por la misma compañía que hace el Shellac, y que dura siete días y que una se lo puede quitar en casa. Este rojo es precioso, pero tienen muchos otros colores. Entre este esmalte y los guantes, parece que tendré una manicura casi perfecta durante los ocho días de la fiesta. 4||Kitchen Aid 12 Cup Food Processor: Ok so mine is not pink, but I sure would’t mind. Can’t do Pesach without a good food processor… can’t!
4|| Ok mi procesadora no es rosada, es blanca, pero en serio, no se puede hacer Pesaj sin una buena procesadora. 5|| Juiceman: Our other juicer broke a few years ago and we bought this Juiceman. We love it. The kids fight over who gets to squeeze the oranges, lemons, and grapefruits. One of the treats of Pesach is to constantly have fresh juice. We squeeze a lot and freeze it so as to always have around during the eight days.
5|| Esta maquinita para exprimir naranjas, toronjas y limones es genial. Mis hijos se pelean por usarla. Una de las cosas ricas de Pesaj es tener jugitos frescos constantemente. Exprimimos bastante y congelamos para tener siempre jugito durante los ocho días. Now if there was a gadget that could do all that vegetable peeling for me….
Ahora, si hubiera una maquinita que me pudiera pelar todos esos vegetales….:-)
