B”H
Good morning, my dears…. the final countdown to Passover is kind of here. Let’s talk something practical, yet fun…. lipsticks! I’m not much of a makeup buyer – I never know what to get and I hate wasting money and then be like, “Meh, that doesn’t look so great”… But, come the week before Pesach and I always go out and buy at least one new lipstick and lip liner. I will need them for Pesach. It’s my chance to either re-stock on something I already own that I love, and/or get a bit experimental and find something new, since I’m buying anyways. Did I lose you? Let me tell you….
Among the customs that the Jewish women have taken upon themselves is to change lipsticks on the Eve of Passover, as an extra precaution in case some Chametz might be stuck to the lipsticks they’ve used all year long. This is not a requirement according to Jewish law, but rather has become an established (and beautiful) custom. I always find it a fun excuse to go out and treat myself to a new lipstick. Of course, we check to make sure the brand is Kosher for Pesach. You can consult your local Rabbinic Authority and/or check some resources here, here, here, and/or here.
So, since Pesach is a week away, I’ve invited two of my favorite makeup artists to tell us what their favorite lipsticks are. So let’s hear it…
Patty Zrihen take it away!

Hello JLP Readers… let me tell you… my favorite lip liners are:
1|| Make Up For Ever aqua lip liners: they are super long lasting and the colors are beautiful. My favorite colors are the nudes 1c 2c 3c.
2|| Palladio Beauty Lip Liners: for a more affordable option I love these; they are also waterproof and last very long.
My favorite lipsticks are:
1|| Mac lipsticks: They are great! They smell good, and depending on the finish they last on your lips. They have an amazing color range and finishes. They are a staple in my kit. They cost around $17.
2|| L’oreal’s Infallible Le Rouge Lipstick: This is a great line. I love them because they are super long lasting and don’t dry my lips. My favorite colors are Unending Kiss and Tender Berry. They range from $8 – $12
3|| Colour Pop Lippie Stix: This is the cutest lipstick line ever. Not only they are affordable but they are excellent quality and the color range is amazing. Plus they come with a matching lipliner. Can’t live without them. My favorites colors are Lumiere, Brink, Frida and Oh Snap. They cost $5 on their website.
For amazing long lasting power I discovered the liquid lipstick craze. They last up to 8 hours or more if you don’t eat anything greasy. But they can dry out your lips, so you need to exfoliate and moisturize them prior to application. My favorite brands of liquid lipstick are:
4|| Kat Von D
5|| Palladio Beauty
6|| Ofra Cosmetics
7|| Colour Pop
Hi JLP readers! I’m Rivki, with Rivki Makeup Artistry. These are my favorite lipsticks at the moment. Spring is here, so, I’ve been getting excited about a combination of some brights as well as nude lips.

1|| MAC Cremesheen in Little Buddha: This is my all time favorite right now. Its pink tone reminds me of all the blossoming flowers, and it’s also a very moisturizing lipstick.
2|| MAC in Up the Amp, amplified: Brings in some of the beautiful purple from winter into spring. It still has a brightness to it, which is so gorgeous for this time of year and again, its has a really soft texture to the lipstick.
3|| Lorac Pro Matte Lip color in Fuchsia: This is a wonderful long lasting lipstick that is NOT drying. The color is such a beautiful bright fuchsia, which can be pared with a soft and gentle glowy look for the rest of the face.
4|| Mac Cremsheene in Japanese Maple with Mac Pro Long Wear lipliner in Staunchly Stylish over all the lips. This is a beautiful nude, which we always need to pair a bold eye look.
5. Revlon Color burst in Sweetheart: This is one of my favorites! Not only is it long lasting, but it moisturizes your lips as well. It is one of my favorite drug store products.
A few tips:
- I suggest always applying your lipstick with a lipstick brush.
- If you want a long lasting lipstick you can do either, or both of these:
1. Apply lip liner all over your lips (can be a nude) and then apply your lipstick.
2. Apply concealer over your lips using a beauty blender, apply lipstick (with brush) then with a small fluffy brush apply a little translucent powder. Fluff away access powder and reapply your lipstick. It will give a long lasting affect.

I’m saving this for the entire year… Thank you, Patty & Rivki you’ve just made lipstick shopping a whole lot more fun! Thank You! Friends, if you are going to be using your new lipstick during Passover, please do not forget to check that the lipstick of your choice is chametz free! (Ask your local Rabbinic Authority and/or you may want to check here, here, here and/or here for additional information.)
Have a Pesach Kasher v’Sameach!
