Mishloach Manot: Puerto Rican Theme

Last year I shared with you my love/hate relationship with Mishloach Manot. This year, I’m loving the direction I’m going with our Mishloach Manot: Puerto Rican Mishloach Manot! This idea felt so natural, and so unique. I had the idea a while ago, and finally put it into action a few days ago with a few clicks of my computer screen. Now it all just needs to get packaged. (Ok fine, I didn’t order coconuts online, but I tried!)

El año pasado les conté de mi relación con los Mishloaj Manot. Este año no me causaron tanto pánico y me encanta la dirección por la cual vamos: ¡Mishloaj Manot Puertorriqueños! ¡Fácilisimo y chulisimo! Hace unas semanas ordené las cosas por Internet – excepto los cocos y el ron (¡no pude, aunque trate!) y ya esta todo aquí listo para que lo empaquetemos. 

Puerto Rican Mishloach Manot – so simple and has every ingredient you need in a mishloach manot and more! Remember you need a minimum of two ready to eat foods, each requiring a different bracha (blessing) to be said on them.

Mishloat Manot Puertorriqueños – super fáciles de armar y con todo lo que van a necesitar en un mishloach manot y ¡mucho mas! Recuerden que necesitaran mínimo dos comidas listas para comer, en las cuales se hacen dos berajot (bendiciones). 

 

Well that was easy: a coconut is a ready to eat food (sure, you need a machete to open it, but hey we all have those lying around in our kitchens, don’t we?) with a bracha “Borei Pri Haetz.” And who doesn’t love Pineaple Juice, especially the Dole ones in the mini 8 oz can!? There you have your bracha “Shehakol.”

Fácil. Un coco, listo para comer (claro que necesitaras un machete para abrirlo, pero eso es otra historia), es la berajá haetz. ¿Y a quién no le gustan los juguitos de piña Dole (con hashgajá) en las latitas de 8 oz.? Ahí tienen la berajá shehakol. 

But, this gets better, as all the things you will need to celebrate Purim are included in the gift:

• the packaging is a Puerto Rican Straw Hat, instead of a basket, doubling as the costume hat you will surely need for your Purim celebrations
• the Puerto Rican maracas will be your graggers: a must!
• A 50 ml Bacardi Gold for your l’chaim, to either drink it straight, or quickly whip up a Pina Colada (if you find your machete to open that coconut)
• A bag of plantain chips just for fun, cuz who doesn’t want additional snacks on their Mishloach Manot (especially after the 50 ml of Bacardi Gold).
• And if you’re feeling creative, include a Piña Colada recipe in your card ;-)
• Skip the machete – it doesn’t make a nice gift, but do wrap everything in clear cellophane and tie with a wide ribbon.

Pero se pone aun mejor, pues todo lo que necesitaran para celebrar Purim esta incluido en el regalo. Miren:

• En vez de una canasta, usaran una pava puertorriqueña, la cual también les servirá como disfraz.
• Una lindas maracas de madera, les servirán de graggers.
• Una botella de 50 ml de Bacardi Gold para el l’chaim – en las rocas y si se animan a hacerse una piña colada, ¿pues por qué no? 
• Una bolsita de platanutres, porque, ¿a quién no le gusta tener otra chuchería en el regalo? Y bueno después del ron, tal vez hace falta…
• Y si se sienten creativas, pueden incluir una tarjetita con una receta de Piña Colada.
• No vayan a incluir un machete, no hace un lindo regalo, pero sí envuelvan todo en papel celofán transparente y aten con una cinta ancha. 

There you have it, my friends everything you need for a festive Purim and with the cutest theme ever! (I’m a bit biased, I know.) Who would have known that all these typical Puerto Rican things would come in so handy to me one day!

Y ahí lo tienen amigas, todo lo que necesitan para tener un Purim festivo y alegre y siguiendo un tema chulisimo. (Soy un poco parcial, ya se.) ¿Quién iba a decir que todas estas cosas típicas puertorriqueñas iban a surgir tan convenientes un día?

Now if I could only get my family members to agree that we should all dress up like this.

Ahora, bien, si pudiera lograr que mi familia accediera a que nos disfrazáramos todos así, el tema estaría completito. 

If I keep pushing on this Puerto Rican costume thing, they’ll want to throw the coconuts at me! Maybe I should get packing, fast!

¡Olvídenlo, si sigo fastidiando con lo de el disfraz de jíbaro puertorriqueño, me van a tirar los cocos en la cabeza! Tal vez, me apresuro a empaquetar todo…
