We have a healthy obsession with books in our family. Yesterday was the first day of winter break and what was the first spot we visited? The Library of course! You won’t hear me complain. :-)
Tenemos una sana obsesión con libros en esta familia. Ayer fue el primer día de las vacaciones de invierno de los chicos y lo primero que hicimos fue… ¡ir a la biblioteca, por supuesto! ¡No me puedo quejar! :-) My young avid readers go through tons and tons of books a week. We have a great supply of Jewish books for young readers ourselves and we make sure to re-stock as often as we can, but you know it’s hard to keep up with the demand. Thankfully, we have wonderful neighbors who allow my kids to borrow books constantly. We are also very lucky that one of the nearby synagogues now runs a Children’s Jewish Library on Sunday mornings and we try to go almost every Sunday to re-stock for the week.
Mis pequeños lectores devoran cantidad de libros en una semana. Tenemos una gran colección de libros judíos para los niños y nos aseguramos de comprar bastante a menudo, pero es difícil, seguirles el paso con lo rápido que leen estos niños. Gracias a Di-s tenemos vecinos maravillosos que les permiten agarrar libros prestados a mis hijos casi semanalmente. También somos afortunados de que una de las sinagogas cercanas tiene una pequeña biblioteca judía para niños, la cual está abierta todos los domingos y a la cual vamos casi todas las semanas.So here’s my kids’ (and mine) suggested book guide for young readers. Obviously, there are a ton more books that they love, but these were the ones they agreed that they would definitely recommend any day to any Jewish child. I have to say, that I have read all of these and I also enjoyed them a lot. Hey, I also run out of books to read around here and thankfully I can grab my kids’ books! :-)
Así que esta es la lista de libros que sugieren mis hijos (y yo) para los lectores jóvenes. Obviamente, hay muchos mas que a los chicos les gustan, pero estos fueron los que ambos estuvieron de acuerdo que definitivamente recomendarían a cualquier niño judío. Tengo que admitirles que yo he leído todos estos y a mi también me encantan. Digo, yo también me quedo corta de libros de vez en cuando y menos mal, puedo agarrar los de mis hijos. :-)Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a good selection of Jewish books for young readers in Spanish… boo hoo :-( But, if there’s an avid young reader in your life, who reads in English, make sure to bookmark this post, because any of these would make a great gift.
Desafortunadamente, no pude econtrarles una buena selección de libros judíos para lectores jóvenes en español… boo hoo. :( Pero, si tienen un lector jóven en su vida, que lea libros en inglés, marquen este post, por que cualquiera de estos sería un lindo regalo.
1|| Hereville How Mirka Got Her Sword & Hereville How Mirka Met a Meteorite by Barry Deutch – These are both new favorites around here. They are both cleverly written and illustrated. We hope he publishes more of Mirka’s adventures. ;-)

Esperamos que el Sr. Deutch publique mas de las aventuras de Mirka. ;-)2|| Kids’ Speak by Chaim Walder – this is a classic collection of by now seven books with incredible real life experiences with invaluable lessons. My kids love these and the fact that the stories are real life kids’ stories makes them more powerful. He also has a similar collection called People Speak.
2|| Kids’ Speak por Chaim Walder – Esta es una colección clásica de ahora siete libros con historias de experiencias de la vida real que cuentan los niños. A mis hijos les encantan y el hecho de que son historias de la vida real, algunas sumamente insólitas y con una moraleja, las hace muy poderosas. El autor también tiene una colección similar titulada, People Speak. 3|| Burksfield Bike Club by Chaim Finkelstein – The characters in this four book collection are just plain funny and get into crazy messes all while having great intentions and a great attitude.
3|| Burksfield Bike Club por Chaim Finkelstein – Los personajes en esta colección de cuatro libros son muy cómicos y se meten en tremendos líos pero siempre con bellas intensiones y una linda actitud.4|| Escape from Seville & To The New World by Chaim Waldman – Any adventure books of the Jews living in the times of the Spanish Inquisition is a favorite around here and these have the added plus to be in comic form.
4|| Escape from Seville & To The New World por Chaim Waldman – Cualquier libro sobre los judíos viviendo en el tiempo de la Inquisición, es un favorito en esta casa y estos además son en comiquitas.5|| More Precious than Gold by Evelyn Mizrahi Blatt – I told you the times of the Spanish Inquisition were a favorite! This is well written aventure book that both my son and my daughter enjoy very much (and me too!)
5|| More Precious than Gold por Evelyn Mizrahi Blatt – ¡Les dije que les encantan las aventuras de la época de la Inquisición! ;-) Este libro esta bien escrito, es una linda historia que ambos mi hijo e hija disfrutan mucho.
