Classics for Any Jewish Library || Clásicos para cualquier biblioteca judía

This collection of books is what I consider a great foundation for a Jewish library as they are all interesting, basic without being simple, and will continue to be relevant and a great resource to you, no matter how advanced you become in the subject matter of Judaism. These books will stand the test of time and you’ll be glad you read them and own them, trust me!

Pienso que esta colección es una buena fundación para una biblioteca judía, ya que son libros interesantes, básicos sin ser simples y continuaran siendo relevantes y un gran recurso, no obstante cuanto uno avance en el tema de judaísmo. Estos libros son a prueba del tiempo – clásicos- y estarán feliz de haberlos leido y de poseerlos. ¡Créanme!

1|| Toward a Meaningful Life by Simon Jacobson: A beautifully written book which shows how all encompassing Judaism is and how Judaism addresses all areas of life. A great introduction to Jewish wisdom.

2|| This is My G-d by Herman Wouk: If you’ve never read anything Mr. Wouk wrote, you’re missing out. Grab this book. You’ll be glad you did.

2|| This is My G-d por Herman Wouk: Si nunca han leido nada del Sr. Wouk, se lo están perdiendo, es un escritor maravilloso.

3|| The Jew and His Home: Every home needs this one. I refer back to this book countless times a year. My husband loves it too!

3|| The Jew and His Home: Todo hogar necesita este libro. Yo me refiero a el constantemente. A mi marido también le encanta.

4|| My Prayer: This two volume collection on Prayer (daily, Shabbat and holiday) makes a lovely gift. It’s the best written guide on prayer out there, in my honest opinion. I definitely should go through this one more often as every time I do, I find more meaning in my own prayers.

4|| Mi Plegaria: Esta es la traducción al español únicamente del volumen que incluye los rezos diarios; no los rezos de Shabbat ni fiestas. Aquí esta la versión en ingles de ambos volúmenes, incorporando todos los rezos. En mi opinion es la mejor guía del rezo que hay. Yo la debería leer mas a menudo por que cada vez que lo hago, le encuentro mas sentido a mis rezos.

5|| Think Jewish: I love this book. I just do! If you’re intellectual and/or argumentative you must read this book. Rabbi Posner will blow your mind away. (I won’t tell you about the embarrassing moment when my young, then single, husband sat next to Rabbi Posner at a Shabbat meal and attempted to make casual conversation by saying “I really enjoyed your book” … let’s just say it didn’t turn out “casual”)

5|| Think Jewish: ¡Este libro me fascina! Si eres intelectual y/0 te gusta una buena discusión, tienes que leer este libro. El Rabino Posner te hará pensar. (No les contaré del vergonzoso rato que paso mi marido, entonces un jóven soltero, cuando sentado junto al Rabino Posner en una cena de Shabbat decidió decirle “me encantó su libro” como para hacer conversación casual… digamos que no resultó ser “casual”)

6|| To Be a Jew by Hayim HaLevi Donin: A very comprehensive guide to Jewish Life. He also wrote To Pray as a Jew.

Tambien escribió To Pray as a Jew.7|| The Gutnick Chumash: No Jewish Library can be left without the Five Books of Moses and I think this is a great Chumash to start with. The binding, graphic design, commentary and chassidic insights are all weaved together into a lovely Chumash. It would also make a great gift.

7|| Jumash: Ninguna biblioteca judía puede estar sin Los Cinco Libros de la Torá. Esta es una buenísima colección. Desde el encuadernado, el diseño gráfico, los comentarios y pensamientos jasídicos, todos están incorporados en un lindo Jumash. Haría un bellísimo regalo.8|| Siddur Tehillat Hashem Weiss Edition: Every Jewish library also needs a Siddur (prayer book) of course and let me tell you that although this Siddur was designed for the young student, there is nothing childish about it. The layout and design are great, with wonderful English insights and explanations on the prayers.

8|| Siddur Tehillat Hashem Edición Weiss: Toda biblioteca judía necesita de un Siddur (libro de rezos), por supuesto. Déjenme decirles que aunque este Siddur fue diseñado para el estudiante jóven, este libro no es infantil en lo absoluto. El diseño es fabuloso e incorpora tremendos comentarios y explicaciones de los rezos.And since you’re off to get yourself some new Jewish books, next time I’ll bring you some library design inspiration because after all we need beautiful space to place and read the books, right?
