B”H

Good Morning! Summer is in full swing here. Amidst the preparations for last week’s Holiday of Shavuot, we also have managed to relax by the pool (whenever these Houston rains have allowed!) When I showed you pictures of our Passover Chol Hamoed trip to the beach, almost two months ago, a lot of you immediately wrote asking me about my daughters’ bathing suits. Oh those bathing suits! I had known for a while that I had to share those beloved bathing suits with you. So I was thrilled when HydroChic told me they would like to sponsor a post for my wonderful readers.

Most of you know that I grew in sunny Puerto Rico – total and absolute beach culture! The beach was my backyard. Literally. As much as I spent many of my afternoons, Sundays, no school and Summer days by the sun, my parents where super strict with sun protection. Super strict. And while many of my friends battle wrinkles and much more serious skin issues today, I have to say I am truly grateful that my parents were so adamant on skin protection. I try to also teach my kids about skin protection because sun damage is a real thing, people! (Yes, I wear sunblock every day!)

In addition, as my girls were getting older I began to hunt for swimsuits that not only would protect them from the sun, but also would be tzniut (modest, for lack of a better translation). Now, if you’ve been reading JLP for a while you know I believe tzniut (or “modesty”), does not mean compromising in style. So, I did a lot of research on bathing suits for my girls because I wanted something that would fit my requirements: sun protecting, tzniut and stylish! My girl’s loved their bathing suits from the moment they arrived. And the best bonus of all, is that I was super impressed with the quality. Last summer, these girls literally wore these bathing suits EVERY SINGLE DAY (except Shabbat) and by the end of summer their bathing suits were still as good as new. No joke!

jewishlatinprincess-hydrochic-standing

So, today I am pleased not only to share my love for HydroChic’s swim suits for girls, but to give you the chance to win one. I love the new colors that they launched for this summer’s collection. We already owned a pink and a teal bathing suit (which you saw here). This year HydroChic sent us the purple swimsuits in their new style for the girls to try. This year’s style has shorter leggings under the skirt. My girls happen to prefer last year’s style with the longer leggings and I have to say I agree with them. But, I’m sure there are other moms and girls out there who prefer the shorter leggings with the skirt. In spite of that, I’m still crazy over these bathing suits and so are my girls. And the new colors are so fun! The girls are comfortable, they feel wonderful in them, and I am happy that they can be protected from the sun as well as in line with the dress code that I have taught them early on: tzniut and beautiful. (That’s not to say, that I’m skimping on the sun block lotion! We use plenty of that too!)

I loved being part of your podcast, I had no idea what to expect and it was refreshing as a Jewish woman to participate in your podcast. Your questions related to what I do, combined with Judaism gave me a lot to think about. I love getting new questions instead of the typical “why did you start the project?” which is important but I’m glad you gave it a twist. I hope your listeners enjoy the interview as much as I enjoyed being part of it! Thanks for challenging me to think about my topic and religion as one.

Yael can be defined as “refreshing inspiration.” She is well-versed in an array of topics from Jewish femininity to design details. Every time I hear her at a speaking engagement or in passing conversation, she always brings an awareness of Jewish femininity to the forefront, constantly reminding women of their spiritual role and importance in ‘everyday’ things. I was thrilled that she passed this concept on, along with her deep knowledge of Judaism, to my daughter during their Bat Mitzvah lessons together. Yael always rises to the occasion (no pun intended) with her eye for design and attention to details. Her subtle palette, creativity and organizational skills are her recipe to success!

My daughter Stav had her Bat Mitzvah a few months ago.  I wanted Stav to go into her 'Bat Mitzvah' understanding the meaning of the term, and with the knowledge of how to apply it to her life. Even though she learns in a Jewish Orthodox school, I felt that she needed extra learning and inspiration for her coming of age.  Luckily, I knew Yael from before, and heard that she teaches Bat Mitzvah classes.  I had a feeling that this would be a good match... I wasn't wrong :)

Yael teaches ancient ideas in a modern way.  Stav came back from classes inspired, thinking and asking herself questions.  I'm thankful that my daughter had the opportunity to learn with Yael for her Bat Mitzvah in a interesting, welcoming and inspiring way.

Yael has creativity, vision, and energy, and she uses them all to the fullest for her clients. She came up with the color scheme, all the accessories, the overall “look” of the day, and I just happily and gratefully followed along. But I don’t want you to think it’s only what Yael wants, Yael does. She asked me for input every step of the way. She always checked in with me about what she was buying, what she thought we should have at the party, and she was always conscious of budget. I wanted everything she suggested, but I know that if there had been anything I wasn’t keen to have, she would have changed it until she found something that I loved. She wanted my daughter and me to be happy with everything. We weren’t happy – that’s too meager a word – we were elated!!! Working with Yael was such a pleasant and joyful experience. And those are two words I don’t use lightly when it comes to describing planning an event.
