So what if you have a rug that you love and it’s the wrong size!? It happens people… you inherited it, you found it on an estate sale…. Here’s the trick… and it works like a charm. Buy a larger sisal or jute rug (large enough that furniture sits on top as I told you here) and layer your smaller printed rug on top of the sisal. This can be considerably cheaper than purchasing a 9 by 12, 10 by 13, 10 by 15 or 13 by 18 rug!!! But, there is one caveat. You want to make sure that your bottom rug is large enough so there’s a 2-3 ft border between both rugs. If both rugs are too close in size, then it will not look intentional, and remember these design tricks are meant to help you design your home like a pro! :-) So, here’s how the layered rug look look works.

Btw, you can do this intentionally from the beginning, not just because you happened to have a small size rug. It adds another layer of texture to the room and works beautifully!
