Giveaway: Kosher Kurls!

B”H

Good morning everyone! How was your Rosh Hashana?

¡Buenos dias a todas! ¿Cómo pasaron Rosh Hashaná?

Here’s a non-spiritual question…How many of you out there have curly hair, or daughters with curly hair? (And perhaps you can’t stand what a two day Yom Tov can do to those oh so lovely curls?) I’m guessing a lot of you… My friends, read along, because curly hair or not, this one is for you!

blog-post-10

One of my daughters was blessed with gorgeous curly hair. Ok fine, it has it’s days… but it really can be gorgeous! Curly hair, and how to handle it, is a new thing for me, as the curls come from my husband’s side of the family. I’ve learned a few tricks along the way to keep the curls shapely and tame. But, it’s still tricky, because it’s so high maintenance and believe it or not, I’m not one to fuss too much about my kids hair, hairdo’s, and so on. I kind of leave it to them.

blog-post-2

The problem is that when hair is curly, you can’t just leave it to a four or five year old to decide what’s happening with it… Otherwise, things happen…

super-crazy

(Can you hear me in the background… “No! You can’t start baking with your hair down like that!”???)

And mami gently forces hair to go on a pony or bun as desperation kicks…

I told you they do things with the hair… I have no idea what’s with the blue ribbon, but I do know I ended up doing a pony. It’s all about compromise around here ;-)

So a few months ago, one of my good friends commented on my daughter’s hair (she must have been having a not-so-great-hair-day) and said, “You need Kosher Kurls.” I said, “What’s that?” She said, honestly I don’t really know, but my friend uses it on her daughter who goes to my Hebrew School. I said, “And?” And she said with a smile, “And I see the results!” Ok, that got my attention! “What’s with the name?” I said. “Is it a Jewish product?” She said, “I don’t think so.” I said, “I’ll look into it.” Well, guess who was overhearing this conversation? My darling five year old!

My daughter was so excited with the name that she did not stop asking me if I had “ordered Kosher Kurls.” Meanwhile, she didn’t even know what it was (and neither did I). Finally, after a week of asking me about the Kosher Kurls, I finally looked into it. You can imagine my surprise when I found that it is a Jewish product! I was quite intrigued, and ordered their leave-in-conditioner as I felt this would be a good place to start.

blog-post-6

We tried it as soon as it arrived, and were sold on it! My daughter’s curls looked so lovely and they lasted! Finally, pretty hair that went beyond just the few hours after the bath.

But wait, I did not tell you that we got a good laugh out of the ingeniously cute packaging!? Is this adorable or what!?

I immediately knew I had to share Kosher Kurls with my lovely readers. And there’s more… Kosher Kurls’ products are all sulfate free!

blog-post-11

It’s only been a few weeks of the school year and I can tell you my daughter is going every day with gorgeous curls instead of a sad mess that usually got put up in a pony or bun by a frustrated mami. And I love that all during Shabbat my daughter’s hair looks awesome!

blog-post-13

She is so proud of her curls!

!Esta tan orgullosa de sus rizos!

The other night, my oldest daughter who has straight hair said, “They should make a product called Kosher Straight.” She rubbed her hair and said, “I need something for my straight hair to stay straight!” We had a really good laugh! :-) (But, guess what? I heard from Davida that this product is also awesome for straight hair! Love it!!!)

¡Osea!)

P.S.
Have you ever tried Kosher Kurls? What are your tips for managing curly hair?

I loved being part of your podcast, I had no idea what to expect and it was refreshing as a Jewish woman to participate in your podcast. Your questions related to what I do, combined with Judaism gave me a lot to think about. I love getting new questions instead of the typical “why did you start the project?” which is important but I’m glad you gave it a twist. I hope your listeners enjoy the interview as much as I enjoyed being part of it! Thanks for challenging me to think about my topic and religion as one.

In preparation for my wedding, I had the opportunity to learn with Yael. Creativity aside, she is a wealth of knowledge, both passionate and practical, about what she teaches and how she teaches it. I'm also proud to say that through our experience together she has become a great friend and is someone that I can I always talk to.

Yael can be defined as “refreshing inspiration.” She is well-versed in an array of topics from Jewish femininity to design details. Every time I hear her at a speaking engagement or in passing conversation, she always brings an awareness of Jewish femininity to the forefront, constantly reminding women of their spiritual role and importance in ‘everyday’ things. I was thrilled that she passed this concept on, along with her deep knowledge of Judaism, to my daughter during their Bat Mitzvah lessons together. Yael always rises to the occasion (no pun intended) with her eye for design and attention to details. Her subtle palette, creativity and organizational skills are her recipe to success!

My daughter Stav had her Bat Mitzvah a few months ago.  I wanted Stav to go into her 'Bat Mitzvah' understanding the meaning of the term, and with the knowledge of how to apply it to her life. Even though she learns in a Jewish Orthodox school, I felt that she needed extra learning and inspiration for her coming of age.  Luckily, I knew Yael from before, and heard that she teaches Bat Mitzvah classes.  I had a feeling that this would be a good match... I wasn't wrong :)

Yael teaches ancient ideas in a modern way.  Stav came back from classes inspired, thinking and asking herself questions.  I'm thankful that my daughter had the opportunity to learn with Yael for her Bat Mitzvah in a interesting, welcoming and inspiring way.

Yael has creativity, vision, and energy, and she uses them all to the fullest for her clients. She came up with the color scheme, all the accessories, the overall “look” of the day, and I just happily and gratefully followed along. But I don’t want you to think it’s only what Yael wants, Yael does. She asked me for input every step of the way. She always checked in with me about what she was buying, what she thought we should have at the party, and she was always conscious of budget. I wanted everything she suggested, but I know that if there had been anything I wasn’t keen to have, she would have changed it until she found something that I loved. She wanted my daughter and me to be happy with everything. We weren’t happy – that’s too meager a word – we were elated!!! Working with Yael was such a pleasant and joyful experience. And those are two words I don’t use lightly when it comes to describing planning an event.

Yael helped me style my son's upshernish as well as my living room. She is wonderful to work with! She is talented and extremely organized which is super helpful! She has an incredible eye and knows how to beautify absolutely anything!
