Today’s Wink comes from reader and dear friend Alex. It happened to her and her husband last year. Welcome Alex!
La guiñada de hoy es de una de las lectoras y querida amiga, Alex. Le sucedió a Alex y a su esposo el año pasado. ¡Bienvenida, Alex!
My husband and I had not gone out in a while without the kids, so we hired a baby sitter and decided to drive to San Diego. Our plan was to go to the beach and enjoy some quality time together. However, on the way to San Diego we decided to stop at the outlets to go to one store quickly and get something that my husband needed. Our plans were not to go shopping, but rather to get to San Diego and have fun outdoors, so we told ourselves, “we’ll go in and out!”
Hacía mucho desde la última vez que mi esposo y yo salimos juntos de paseo sin los niños, así que un día dejamos a los chicos en buenas manos y nos fuimos manejando a San Diego. Nuestro plan era pasar el día juntos en la playa, disfrutando el uno del otro. Sin embargo, en camino a San Diego decidimos parar por los “outlets” para ir rápidamente a una tienda y comprar algo que mi esposo necesitaba. Nuestro plan no eran ir de shopping, sino pasar el día divertidos afuera en la playa, bicicletas etc. así que dijimos, “ok pero vamos entrada y salida.”
As we were walking back to leave the mall with our bag, we saw two young Israeli men selling products in the “carts”. Noticing that we’re Jewish, the boys stopped us saying “Shalom!” We stopped and said “hi.” And then, I smiled and said, “Want to put on tefillin?” Now, don’t ask me why I did that or how the words came out of my mouth. They just did.
Cuando íbamos caminando de regreso hacia la salida del mall con nuestra bolsa, vimos a dos muchachos israelíes vendiendo en los “carritos del mall.” Al darse cuenta de que somos judíos, los chicos nos dijeron, “Hey, Shalom!” Paramos y dijimos, “¡Hola!” Y en ese instante yo me sonreí y dije, “¿Quieren ponerse tefilín? No me pregunten de donde me salió eso, pero así mismo sonriéndome lo dije.
My husband immediately did a double take wondering, “what?” And then to the surprise of both of us, the boy said, “Sure!”
Mi esposo se voltió a verme asombrado y para mayor sorpresa de ambos, el muchacho israelí me contesta, “¡Seguro!”
My husband looked at me and mumbled, “the car is quite far.” (The tefillin were in the car.) I said, “you have to!” :-) My husband went to get the tefillin from the car.
Mi esposo me mira y murmura, “el carro está lejísimos.” (Los tefilín estaban en el carro.) Yo le dije, “tienes que buscarlos.” :-) Mi esposo fue a buscar los tefilín al carro.
After the young men put on tefillin, they told us the following:
Después de que los muchachos se pusieron los tefilín, nos dijeron:
“You and your husband were sent by G-d! Two days ago a chabadnik (a young man from Chabad Lubavitch) came and asked us to put on tefillin and we said “No.” Ever since then, we’ve had the worst sales we’ve had since we started selling. My friend said it’s because we didn’t put on the tefillin. I couldn’t put the thought out of my mind, and this morning when we came to work I told my friend… today we have to put on tefillin! And here you showed up and asked! ;-)
“¡Tu esposo y tú fueron mandados por Di-s! Hace dos días vino un jabadnik (un muchacho de Jabad Lubavitch) vino y nos pidió que nos pusiéramos tefilín. Le dijimos, “No.” Desde ese momento neutras ventas cayeron y han sido las peores ventas que hemos tenido desde que comenzamos a trabajar. Mi amigo me dijo que es por que no nos pusimos tefilín. Durante dos días no me podía sacar la idea de la cabeza y esta mañana le dije a mi amigo, “¡Hoy nos tenemos que poner tefilín! !Y ustedes se aparecieron y nos preguntaron! ;-)
