Last week I shared with you that we celebrated my daughter’s Hebrew Birthday. Today, I’ll show you pictures of this 7 year old girl birthday and tell you a little bit about how I achieved the look for her. But, if you’ve read my post on cake pops and are familiar with my blog, you know that beneath the external beauty is a more important inner beauty and meaning that is just waiting to be revealed (I will tell you more about the “inner dimension” of this party in a following post.) Here’s how I styled my 7 year old girl’s birthday party.
We invited my daughter’s eight classmates to a playground conveniently located close to the school and our home. As the girls arrived, they grabbed a snack to eat, and ran to play on the playground. The “menu” consisted of pink popcorn, pink glitter sprinkled chocolate covered cake-pops, pink icing smothered chocolate cupcakes, pomegranate seeds, and raspberry lemonade. It was simple, but beautifully presented and delicious (or so I heard).
I really liked the idea of individual servings so that the girls could just grab treats and enjoy the beautiful park, as well as eat while enjoying the planned games; rather than have them formally sit down to eat. This worked out really well!
Although it might look like a lot of work, it really wasn’t. Here’s how to pull this together, the budget-friendly and time-efficient way:
At Tuesday Morning, I got two table runners for $1.99 each, and a box of 24 cupcake papers and 24 bows for $2.99; both items from the Martha Stewart Collection. I also found pink and white chevron print straws, and pink and white polka dot baking cups that matched everything else. I thought to use the baking cups ($2.99 for 25 cups) for individual servings of pink popcorn.
After one short trip to Tuesday Morning, I had a color scheme for the party and almost everything I would need for the decor- all within my budget. I quickly set off for my local dollar store to get the two white plastic table cloths; the small silver spoons and small clear cups for the pomegranate seeds; styrofoam boxes to stick the cake pops; and perfect white and silver polka dots tissue paper, which I used to cover the boxes.
I bought cake pop sticks, white pearls for the cupcakes, and pink glitter for the cake pops at Joann’s with a coupon- all for less than $5.00. Then I went to the grocery store and picked up two boxes of parve Duncan Hines chocolate cake and Pillsbury strawberry icing, for less than $2.00 each (yey for Thanksgiving sales!) and two boxes of fresh Raspberries for $0.88 each.At home, I found the rest of the supplies needed: lemons gifted by a neighbor, chocolate chips, eggs, oil, sugar, etc. I baked a day in advanced and kept it all in the fridge. I also made the popcorn and the raspberry lemonade, and covered the boxes with tissue paper, the day before the party. By the way, cake pops are really easy to make. Do not be intimidated by them. I used a simple cake pop mold from Target and the Duncan Heins mix and some melted chocolate chips to cover them.
My daughter and her friends loved the set up and the food. They kept repeating how delicious it was. Ok, usually I don’t feed boxed cakes, icing, and caramelized popcorn to my kids, but hey it was a birthday party and they looked and tasted good. Oh, and in any event, I had the pomegranate seeds and raspberry lemonade to offset the nutritional damage. Yes?
