Friendship Circle: Redefining the Word Disabled

I’ve written a little bit about Friendship Circle before. I love this organization and in fact, I’ve been involved with it here in Houston in different capacities. When I saw this project of Friendship Circle of Michigan – the Farber Center – and what they are doing, I knew I had to show it Jewish Latin Princess’ readers. It is a real testament of the power of words and the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s teaching of changing the use of the words handicapped or disabled to “Metzuyanim” in Hebrew, or Exceptional! In addition, what this Art Studio is accomplishing really speaks to the meaning of the verse in Proverbs 22:6, “Educate each child according to his way…” Get your tissues out and watch this till the end. It is well worth it. And then go show it to your kids. They will LOVE it!

Wow, really it is us, the parents and educators who need to get out of our boxes and keep trying to figure out how to help unleash our children’s and our students potential! I am so impressed by this art studio and this cafe! My son, goes to camp in Detroit and he went to Friendship Circle of Michigan’s Weinberg Village (which you got a glimpse of in the video) last summer and he had told us all about it excitedly. Just visiting Friendship Circle’s Weinberg Village and the Farber Center might be a good excuse to go up to Michigan for camp’s visiting day ;-)
