Good morning! Now that you’re taking some steps to reduce financial anxiety and feel more empowered as a result of Monday’s post, let me give this conversation a spiritual spin based on Jewish mysticism. I want to draw your attention to this week’s parasha – Parashat Noah – which contains a beautiful lesson related to none other than… drum roll, please… financial worries! Talk about Hashgacha Pratit! ;-)
¡Buenos días! Ya que estamos todas tomando medidas para reducir las preocupaciones financieras , a raíz del post del lunes, hoy quiero presentarles un ángulo mas espiritual. (¿Quieren que traduzca el post del lunes al español, avísenme y me lanzo.) Pongamos atención a la parashá de la semana – Parashat Noaj – la cual nos da una bella lección sobre como lidiar con… nada mas y nada menos que… ¡las preocupaciones financieras! ¿Hashgajá Pratit?
You’re all familiar with the story line since way back in childhood, but now that we’re adults, let’s go deep into it (no pun intended).
Todas conocen la historia, probablemente desde la niñez. Pero ya que somos adultas, vayamos mas profundo.
According to Jewish mysticism the waters of the Flood represent man’s material pursuits and the unavoidable worries that these bestow on man – financial worries, health worries, business issues and the like. Those worries – turbulent waters – could consume us to the point that we could feel like we’re drowning in them. (Yes? Anyone out there can relate?) I’m sure this is relatable because otherwise the Torah would not be bringing it up. Now, the question is, How did Noah and his family survive the turbulent waters of the flood?
Según la tradición mística judía, las aguas de la tempestad representan los emprendimientos materiales del hombre y las preocupaciones inevitables que vienen con estos – preocupaciones financieras, de salud, problemas de negocios y demás. ¿Alguien se puede identificar con este tema? Seguro que sí, y mas de unas cuantas, pues si no fuera un tema de la condición humana real, la Torá no nos lo estaría mencionando. Ahora, la pregunta es, ¿cómo fue que Noaj y su familia sobrevivieron las aguas turbulentas de la tempestad?
And you all know the answer! By going into Noah’s Ark – the Teiva! Entering the Teiva is the key to surviving the flood AND to coming out of the flood on a much higher level. In Hebrew, the word teiva also means word. When we are drowning with financial worries or other material pursuits, H” tells us to “enter the teivah” – to connect with the words of Torah and prayer. Finding refuge in His word, not only do we surmount the turbulent waters, but the waters lift our souls to higher levels than before. How so?
Por supuesto, todas sabemos la contestación: se metieron en el arca de Noé – la Teiva. Meternos en el arca es la clave para sobrevivir la tempestad Y para salir de ella elevados o en un nivel mas alto. En hebreo la palabra teiva también quiere decir palabra. Cuando nos estamos ahogando en los problemas financieros y otras situaciones resultantes de nuestra condición física, Di-s nos dice, “métete en la teiva.” Conéctate con las palabras de la Torá y del rezo. Encontrando refugio en Su palabra, no sólo sobrevivimos las aguas turbulentas, sino que el agua llega a elevar nuestras almas a un plano mas alto. ¿Cómo?
We have to be involved in material pursuits. This is inevitable. After all, our souls were sent into a material world! And while the material pursuits could be a source of destruction, G-d forbid – like a flood – they can also be the ultimate source of elevation, because when we are involved in them while using H’s Torah as our anchor, we fulfill our souls’ ultimate purpose in descending to this lower world: to reveal the G-dliness that exists within it.
Tenemos que estar envueltos en este mundo y todo lo que este conlleva. Eso es inevitable; pues fue aquí a donde nuestras almas descendieron. Y si bien el envolvimiento en el mundo físico puede ser como una tempestad, una fuente de destrucción; también puede ser fuente de elevación. Cuando estamos envueltos en este mundo físico y todo lo que este nos exige, si usamos las palabras de Di-s como ancla, logramos realizar el objetivo esencial del descenso de nuestra alma a este mundo: revelar la divinidad que este poseé.
So, bottom line. Worry never helps; and as Jews, not only do we have to take action to navigate the flood, but those actions need to be fueled by our connection to G-d. When financial anxiety or other material worries arise, go into the Teiva – draw from G-d’s wisdom the strength to carry you forward and elevate everything that you’re pursuing. En fin, amigas. Llenarnos de ansiedad nunca ayuda. Como judías, no sólo tenemos que tomar acciónes para navegar la tempestad, si no que estas acciones tienen que estar estimuladas por nuestra conexión con Di-s. Cuando aumentan las preocupaciones financieras y otras preocupaciones físicas, es hora de meternos en la teiva – extrayendo fortaleza de la sabiduría de Di-s y así elevando todos nuestros emprendimientos físicos. ¡Que Di-s nos bendiga a todas con mucho éxito!
